In an emergency: even if your phone shows NO signal, dial 112. 112 connects through any carrier's tower, not just your own — it regularly gets through where your provider has nothing, with the keypad locked, even with no SIM. Try it before you assume you can't call. (000 works wherever there is any coverage.) In truly remote country beyond every network, carry a PLB or satellite communicator.
